The Goal

The goal with this project was to make a horror stealth game where the player needed to find a key in order to the escape.

  • Visuals: dark, foggy, apocalypse, realistic
  • Audio: foley-ed, realistic, spooky
  • Game-play: stealth, hack and slash

Visuals

The lighting is dark and foggy, creating a spooky atmosphere. The player is provided with a flashlight and is locked in first person, which limits visibility. The textures are high resolution which allows the player to be immersed. The vibrant lighting amidst the fog is meant to inspire the feeling of an apocalypse. Additionally the enemies are zombies which have glowing eyes, this aids seeing them in the dark and it also shows their health. Basic ui shows your weapons and ammo.

Audio

All of the footsteps have been foley-ed by me. This provides the player with realistic sounds in all environments and floor types. The addition of eery wind noises and distant sounds further provide the players with a thrill. If zombies sneak up on you they can give you a jump scare, which consists of a loud sound and the visuals to match.

Game-play

The game-play is designed to enable stealth mechanics such as sneaking around and avoiding enemies, as well as the ability to attack in a hack and slash style. The Stealth mechanic is sound based, where the player creates noise which attracts enemies attention. The player has a limited amount of stamina for running and blocking attacks. Different weapons (including guns, bow and arrow, crossbows, knives and swords) have unique stats which could be better for stealth or better for full loud attack. The enemies can rag-doll, which emphasize the power of your attacks while incentivising melee and stealth attacks.
